Primary Care Training and Enhancement - Residency Training in Mental and Behavioral Health

The Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine Residency program at Western Michigan University received nearly $2.5 million from HRSA to train up to 60 residents who will ultimately be employed in medically underserved communities. With the funding, WMU will develop didactic and clinical training programs for residents and general pediatricians, and expand their mental and behavioral health staff to allow for additional teaching and clinical responsibiliies. Some specifics of the grant activities include: creating a month-long mental and behavioral health rotation, starting a collaborative ADHD clinic specifically for teaching residents, and partnering with the WMU Resiliency Center and Child Abuse rotation to provide training in trauma-informed care and culturally- & linguistically-appropriate care.
