Nuclear Medicine Technologists
Overview of the profession:
Certified Nuclear Medical Technologists (CNMTs) play a crucial role in the healthcare system by utilizing radioactive materials to assist in diagnosing and treating various medical conditions. They are responsible for preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals to patients, operating specialized imaging equipment, and analyzing the images to provide vital information to help physicians make informed decisions about patient care. To become a CNMT, individuals must complete an associate-level or bachelor's-level nuclear medicine technology program accredited by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Upon graduation, individuals can take a credentialing exam through the NMTCB or ARRT to gain certification. Once certified, CNMTs work in hospitals, clinics, diagnostic labs, and research centers. Through their contributions to patient care oncology, cardiology, and neurology and their overall commitment to patient safety, CNMTs are invaluable members of the healthcare team.
